This is the web site of Joyce & David Henderson who live in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, Australia. David also spends much of his spare time at their small farm near Oberon in the Central Tablelands area of NSW.
It is a collection of significant and memorable events from their lives, and of their 4 children Tim, Peter, Josh and Catherine, together with anything else that takes their fancy! (it is intended primarily as our own resource, but there is nothing here that I mind sharing if you happen to find your way here.)
Peter
Peter is a keen sportsman and enjoyed playing soccer, basketball and cricket as a child.
On completion of his Batchelor of Education at the University of Western Sydney he worked as a casual teacher in several local primary schools before taking up a permanent position at Nepean Christian School.
Peter is married to Rikki and is currently the principal of Namoi Valley Christian School at Wee Waa.
In 2013 Rikki gave birth to our first grandchild, Sophie, and a couple of years later to our first grandson, Samuel. In late 2017 another boy (Elisha) was added to their family, and in late 2020 we gained another granddaughter (Emma). At right is a Pixie Photo of Peter as a boy.

The picture below is the front cover of a university information booklet featuring a picture of Josh, and to left is his student profile from the same booklet

Catherine
Catherine loves cooking, singing and musicals.
She has appeared in productions with
Blue Mountains Musical Society including Annie and Grease, but more recently has appeared in several productions with Blackout Theatre Co (although not for a little while now as uni combined with full-time work has kept her pretty busy!).
Catherine loves working with children and has worked as a nanny and as a Party Host at a tenpin bowling center. In 2018 Catherine worked with disabled children at a Summer Camp near Chicago. She graduated with a B.A from Western Sydney University
shortly after returning home. She continued working as a manager at the Penrith Tenpin Bowling center until she went to work at the same camp in 2019 following which she began a 6 month contract working with childrens activities on Carnival Elation cruising in the Carribean and Bahamas. She returned to Australia in early March 2020 (just before Covid Quarantine started) and started a new job working with an Out Of School Hours childcare centre where she had a position of Assistant Manager before resigning to again work on a Carnival ship cruising in the Carribean.

David
David lived on a small acreage in the greater Sydney region as a boy and enjoyed horse riding and driving a sulky
prior to getting his car driving licence.
Although he has a degree in Architecture he has worked in the insurance and building industries and more recently
(since the early 1990s) as a computer software developer (predominantly in the banking, finance and treasury sectors,
but also enjoying a stint working on architectural CAD software).
David took up running in his early 40s and during that time also regularly rode his bicycle 90km to work as well as
competing in several triathlons and half/full marathons. Due to knee problems he has not run much since turning 50 and
his favourite passtime is now gardening and maintaining the grounds of their property near Oberon, and he once again has
a horse.
After progressively reducing his work hours over the previous 5 years, David retired in September 2015. He bought a kayak the week after retiring, and has taken this up as his main exercise activity (it's a lot easier on the knees than running!). He can regularly been seen on Lake Oberon in his kayak.

Joyce
Joyce was born in England but came to Australia with her parents when she was a young girl.
She loves working with children and studied at Sydney Kindergarten Teachers College, although she was working in a
bank when she met David.
After having our first child (Tim) Joyce left work to become a full-time mother. As our children grew older she did some part-time
casual work in child-care and also as a teachers aid and exam supervisor.
In 2007 some of Joyce's friends from her childhood in England came to Australia to visit.
Click here for some photos as we showed them around the Sydney Region.

Tim
Tim has always had a keen interest in computer games and animation (particularly Japanese Anime), and was awarded the Dean's Medal on completing his degree in Fine Arts at the University of Western Sydney.
Following graduation Tim wrote his first magazine article (about computer games based on Anime characters) which was published in Hyper magazine to which he became a regular contributor.
Since then he has lived in London for several years where he worked in the Computer Games section of a large HMV store whilst continuing to write for Hyper and other computer gaming magazines. Tim is still active in writing about games.
Whilst in London he also completed his CELTA, and since then has taught english at a hagwon in Uijeonbu (South Korea) and since 2012 has been teaching english in Japan where he currently lives with his fiance
Laarni (Lani).
Click this link for an article in the Philipines Cosmopolitan Magazine where Laarni features in the headline photo (she is the one in
the black dress, and also features in the last few paragraphs of the article), or listen to an interview she gave to a Women in Law podcast..

Bethlehem House Concerts
Bethlehem House is an old peoples home a few doors up from an office where David worked at Kogarah.
With a group of his colleagues David performed lunch-time 'concerts' for the residents each month (well, we sang
anyway - calling it a concert may be a bit of an exageration!). The photos below are of our 'Christmas in July'
concert in 2002.
These performances ceased shortly after this due to many of us moving from the Kogarah office within just a few
months of each other. Our family (plus Jeanette) returned to give a Christmas concert in December 2002. Although we
didn't get any photos of that, we did get a very nice letter of
thanks.

Oberon is a small town (about 5,000 population in the local government area, with just over half of those in the township itself) located
in the Central Tablelands of NSW. The nearest major tourist attraction is Jenolan Caves, but Oberon is also a destination in its own right, with attractions such as Mayfield Garden and the Oberon-Tarana Heritage Railway (expected to start running late 2023 or in 2024). Oberon used to host the Highlands steam and Vintage Fair in February each year but that is unfortunately no longer happing.
David also regularly kayaks on Lake Oberon which was opened up to non-powered recreational boating in 2013. There are normally many water birds on and around the lake, and David has also seen a platypus in the lake on a couple of occasions.
Being relatively high in elevation (our property is approx 1100m above sea level) we generally experience a few snowfalls during winter, and
summer days are normally quite a bit cooler than Sydney or the Blue Mountains where we live. We have many daffodils and tulips in our garden there
and they put on quite a show during September and October each year.

Recipes
The below are all recipes that David has made at least once and thought worthy of keeping. It is just his on-line recipe book where he comes when he
wants to find something again. Many of the recipes are for microwave dishes. A few of them (the ones with yellow highlight) have become family favourites.
